Petition to Disavow Trump
US Army veteran Crystal Cravens is circulating a petition to call on GOP leaders to withdraw their support for Donald Trump and “his attack on veterans.”  The petition currently has over 100,000 signatures and will be delivered to GOP leaders including Senator John McCain, Senator Mitch McConnell, Representative Raul Ryan.
The petition was conceptualized after Trump’s disparaging comments about the Khan family whose son, a US soldier died in Iraq. The petition partially reads, “This is one in a long line of painful examples which make it clear that Trump cannot be trusted to honor the women and men serving this nation in the armed services.”
Cravens, a veteran of Operation Enduring Freedom founded the organization Common Defense to confront comments made by Trump and to work for his defeat in the US presidential elections.
AARP Dumps ALEC
The American Association for Retired Persons has dropped its membership in the American Legislative Exchange Council.  It was a 2011 investigation by the Center for Media and Democracy that first exposed the heavily funded right-wing lobby ALEC’s “long history of peddling bills that harm the interests of retirees and other Americans.  AARP joins over 120 other sectors that have cut ties with ALEC including Pepsi, Coca-Cola, Walmart, Amazon, Proctor and Gamble, Dell, Bank of America, and Unilever.
